Still intending to set up a website archive for fic (as well as, not instead of, archiving on livejournal). There is, of course, that inherent problem. You know the one. The one that always plagues me with everything I do.

Yeah. That one.

Naming the damn thing.

*g*

(Nori is setting me up on rikkaidai.org - I just need a subdomain name. I have been in need of a subdomain name for, oh, a week now?)

This really is a perpetual problem of mine. Roleplaying - so you've thought about who your character is, created a story for them, even rolled up their stats. You're ready to play except for, oh, that pesky little detail... Or stories. How damn long did it take me to name each story I've written? I knew what 'the moon and our scars' was called by the time I'd written a paragraph and a half of it, I think, or at least that it would be some variation on that - but that was the fault of the illustration and words at the beginning of the chapter I was basing the story on. Nothing else has ever presented itself so easily, and there have honestly been days when I've spent twice as long trying to title something as I did writing it in the first place. Journals? Ok, how many of my journals have only been named after begging Syl for help? I don't think I want to admit that one. *g* When I was a small child it's true that I named every spider I found in my bedroom, but I named them all Victoria. Yes, all of them. (I also named every stray cat I came into contact with - which was, for various reasons, quite a few - some variation on Thomas, unless forcibly stopped or informed that it was female. And even then, I thought of it as Thomas. Or Tommy. Or Tom. The first cat I was allowed to keep was called Tommy.)

Evidently there is a part of the brain which comes up with names, and mine has been misfiring for a very long time now.

It's probably just as well I have no particular intention of reproducing. Can you imagine the state I'd end up in if I had to provide a small human being with a name it could well be stuck with for the better part of a century?

Doesn't bear thinking about.

Obviously my six year old self thought so too!

btw, if you had a child, you'd just call it Neil. You might spend months thinking about it, but I'm sure it'll just end up being called Neil, regardless of gender.

XD

Neil is the name of a site director I really hate, though... XD;;

It's also the first name of Mr.Gaiman.

Hmm. I suppose the pure awesome does rather outweigh the vast trauma.

Yeah. And it's the closest name to "Niou" you can get.

Though naming a child even anything close to Niou is pretty much asking for trouble.

It'll be beautiful. XD Both the child and whatever it does.

XDDD

For a given value of 'beautiful'.

Just as well it's only a theoretical child and likely to remain so. ;)

Beauty is a matter of opinion and perspective.

You could always name a pet Neil. Or Niou.

Niou, I fear, will be the name of a particularly perverse cat I may own at some point in the future. It will be evil and probably beat up the other neighborhood cats for fun and change its mind about whether it likes me all the time. (So... a cat, basically.)

the naming of parts

i suck at titles, they never match the stories, I'm on a bit of a poetry kick at the moment, naming things after lines of poetry, I decided when i was nine that if i had a baby, boy or girl, i was going to call it jacob and so when i name characters i never call them jacob just in case
sometimes the names come to me, sometimes not, sometimes a story can have half a dozen titles or be labelled untitled, and sometimes, just sometimes, I flashes of inspiration and come up with the best titles.
so it's not just you.

I could have sworn there was a spider called Clementine, as well. :D

Hee, you only have to look at my website and journal names to know this naming thing could be a genetic trait.

Oh... that's possible! Yes. I may have had two spider-names. *g*

Ah well. *laughs*

I refuse to leave a story marked 'untitled', though, unless it's absolutely tiny. I'm too stubborn! So a lengthly fight with the universe to try and locate a reasonable title usually follows...

usually, the teeny tiny pieces, oh I have no problem naming those with sometihng pithy and lovely, more than a thousand words - yes, well

but flicking through a book of miscellaneous poetry and picking a line at random - that seems to work for me
the naming of parts is a poem

XDDDD Naming all of the spiders and cats the same thing just sounds really cute and funny. ♥

But naming things is the worst. =_____=;;;;;; Good luck to you on that one.

Victoria. That's utterly awesome. Reminds me of Corpse Bride :) I always say that I want a pet just so I could name it, but... My rat ended up being named Cloud because that was the name they gave him at the pet store. I wanted to call him Saturday, but the general consensus of friends and family was '...no.' XP

Rats have been called worse things than Saturday. ;) I would've gone with Saturday. But I'm kind of a freak about rat-naming. Wonder what my next one will end up being called whenever I'm in a position to get one...
