I do that, grow my hair insanely long (Duo length) wander around with a braid because it's too long to do anything with, lose my rag with it and have it cut Hilde short, then as it grows out I have a month or so as Trowa, then zechs (which it is about now) and then Duo length for about six months before I repeat the cycle.
There is a normal black/blue dye from Schwarzkopf which is quite good and about Yukimura colour. I was that colour at the last squee before i went Aya scarlet for a bit, it's black at the moment but that was more laziness than intent.
