Val wanted pictures of what's on our bookshelves. She's a librarian so I guess it's a kind of specialised voyeurism. ♥ Pez took these pictures and says we shouldn't show you everything since that would be giving too much away... XD (Not pictured here: DVDs, gaming books, graphic novels, engineering books, most of my CDs, etc.) Some of this is mine. Some of this is Pez's. Most of which is which should be blindingly obvious, but I wish to say: Shannara is nothing to do with me! XD

Thank you for indulging my little fetish. I'll be back with a verdict eventually.

I feel we're being tested. I hope we pass. I don't want you to have to disown us.

This is all surprisingly unsurprisingly. I KNEW THIS STUFF ALREADY. My stalking attempts are failing. :( How is Altered Carbon? Is it worth looking out for?

I didn't finish it, actually. I don't remember being super-impressed but I do plan to give it another shot sometime.

(I was reading it one summer on site and it turned out to be a really busy season and I sort of lacked the energy to actually follow it properly. XD; )

It's not like you have to explain yourself. I haven't read the majority of the books I own.

I know. I just realised my not-very-impressed comment was quite likely being unfair to the book given the circumstances in which I *tried* to read it. XD

Yay! bookcases are up! :)

I'm totally chasing my tail at the moment, but I'll try to phone you tomorrow to catch up. Tooth's feeling better, physio's been at my knees, hair is cut, inspection is tomorrow, lots of paperwork odds and ends to overhaul tonight...

Almost all the furniture is up! We still have loads of sorting to do upstairs but downstairs is all there now really. :)

Glad your tooth is improving and all that! Good luck with work...

I am so relieved that someone else in the UNIVERSE has the stupid individual books of A Storm of Swords; I was SO annoyed when they re-issued it as a single copy, after I not only paid for two separate books, but squeezed them both onto my bookshelf too!

(Also it makes me get mixed up on what number they are up to since I have an "extra" book.)

Date: 2008-09-10 08:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] giving-ground.livejournal.com
*laughs* Those're actually Pez's, but yeah... in terms of carrying around to read on the bus and not breaking my spine the individual volumes were actually quite useful! XD Otherwise... yeah.

Date: 2008-09-10 08:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fsop.livejournal.com
Yeah, I did think they were hers and not yours, but still the sheer relief of knowing someone else has them compelled me to comment regardless! ;)

And I do see your point on carrying them around... Now that I think of it I don't think mine have ever been outside the house!

I call the spare bedroom in my apartment "The Porn Room" XD

I would take pictures but, well, a five-shelf bookcase full of romance novels looks pretty much the way you'd expect it to.

XDDDDD I think our porn will just have to live in drawers and stuff...

*laughs* I think our bookshelves in general (including the not-appearing-in-this-post stuff) display an amazing range of geekiness............. XD

Your books look shiny. Is that The Mabigonion I see in a corner there? And ooh! Murakami! Altered Carbon!

Date: 2008-09-10 08:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] giving-ground.livejournal.com
It is indeed! It dates from my early teens, I suspect -- my obsession with researching the background of stories goes back some way and at the time I was BIG on British myths and traditional stories. *g* (plus, it's also a very pretty copy.)

Can you tell that I'm now going along and seeing how many I recognise?

I liked King of Shadows a lot ^_^ and is that Winnie the Pooh on the far right of the lower shelf in the top picture? Looks suspiciously familiar, anyway. (And yes, I'm noticing the kids books). I think you might be right about Good Omens - we have a paperback but it looks like the same version.

It all looks very neat /impressed/

From: [identity profile] giving-ground.livejournal.com
*laughs* I thought you would recognise those! And yeah, I was bought my copies of winnie the pooh for my 18th birthday as part of my present since my mother refused to let go of HER copies to give them to me. XD

It's neat because we only just unpacked! XD

...Somehow I would bet we grew up reading exactly the same things. Current evidence seems to suggest it anyway. And, well, I went through a myths phase also, though coaxed my family into getting me tomes of Greek myths rather than the Mabinogobin.

I bet you it doesn't take me that long to make my room in Southampton look lived in. Really. If only because I'll be double stacking my solitary bookshelf.

Pretty much! I think our families are really very similar, or at least started out so. I get the distinct impression that your family tends more towards the side of actually functioning than mine... XD

I foresee disputes over Swallows and Amazons rather than Winnie the Pooh but yes. It's interesting how much background we do seem to have in common.

And I'm amused at how telling our choices in kids' books seem to be.

I think I can figure out Ja Weiß.

We have Alfred Bester and about 6 other authors in common! I never read Shannara even before I'd followed the (apparently) well-trod path from fantasy fiction to Dorothy Dunnett, but I think that's just historical accident.

I haven't actually read my Shannara book yet. Don't know why I bought it TBH. XD But now that you've pointed it out, I think I'm gonna whack you on the head with it in your sleep.
