Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either:

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon,
(b) a reason he/she sucks,
(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes,
(d) five things that never happened to that character, or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why.

(Yes, yes, you can take pot-shots at my more obscure ones, too.)

I've got a few things I need to get back to people about -- sorry about that. I've been really restless the last few days and spent a lot of time fidgeting around the house since my hips have been being a bit painful and don't like the computer chair. I'll get to it soon. :)

[sort of a bit of b AND c? *lame as hell*]

Sanzo has everything a person could need and nothing that he wants. He's beautiful and hates it; he's talented and would rather waste it. He smokes like he wants it to kill him. He fights against everything he is, but probably even Goku wouldn't be able to tell you what he'd prefer to be. He certainly couldn't tell you himself.

"He is the worst priest I have ever seen," a forgotten monk once said after meeting him, "but I think perhaps also the best."

After all, he holds nothing.

(Or almost nothing. He will never talk about the feeling of watching a small body fall, covered in blood, and realising that in the end, there is no-one who needs nothing at all; and he will never talk about the memories that come with the rain, and the way he keeps them close like friends -- like lovers.)

[Five people Oscar never fell in love with]

Rosalie was a sweet girl. It pained Oscar, a little, to see her trying so hard to be someone she is not, all for revenge. Because she was Oscar she never even saw the way it became about something else, and if she had, she would not have known how to respond.

Rosalie was a sweet girl.

Like a little sister.

She had not even considered the light in which her closeness with Marie Antoinette could be seen until it was laid out in court, explicit and shocking in its details; despite everything, her image of herself was still such that even herself might not have been the appropriate word, and besides, she would never have considered that sort of disloyalty.

Behind her outrage for the queen's reputation, curiosity worked away at the whole thing in her mind. But however long she gave it, the idea didn't begin to make sense.

For a while, with Fersen, she thought it was love. It is only with hindsight that she can begin to understand, and perhaps she never really does; it might be that Fersen himself understands it far better. At the time she was curious, and he was convenient, and he was safe.

She never thought she would be like the teenage girls who used to giggle behind their fans when she went past, secure in their crushes knowing she'd never be anything more than courteous to them. But there it was.

Not really love, after all.

When it came to the Comte de Girodelle, there was no question. Professional respect was one thing, but he had spent years taking her orders, and she could barely view him as a personal friend, let alone... anything else.

All she felt was horror at being treated like a woman, and after that she didn't even have a great deal of respect left for the man.

So that was that.

There was a moment with Alain, towards the end, when she thought perhaps if I was someone else I could have loved you. He was rough but kind, and all sorts of straightfoward things that were not really a part of her world, and if she could have been a simple person then he would have been perfect.

But in the end, it was only a passing thought. They had found more common ground than she would have thought possible at the start, but she was able to recognise pure self-indulgent wondering when she encountered it.

In the end it was so ridiculous that she almost made herself laugh, fighting it until she began to cough instead, hunched over awkwardly and trying not to be heard.

You know, I could kiss you right now. This was a wonderful response.

Oscar is one of my most favorite characters EVER and I have to agree with everything. With Fersen I think it was the circumstances in which they both met, at a time where she was physically vulnerable and confronted with her own frailties and that put Fersen in a dominant position that she had never seen any other man before.

I don't need to explain what a fanatic I am about Oscar. I've made that clear already.

You got them all right, I think. I'm so glad you did Alain. I've made it my purpose in this fandom that doesn't exist to protect his honour.

HIJIKATA Uhm.. Balalaika?

HIJIKATA IS AWESOME BECAUSE HE IS REALLY TARUNDORU AND LOOKS GOOD IN TRADITIONAL CLOTHING.

This is surprisingly difficult. I keep second-guessing my memory of canon. I'll get back to you.

Hakkai did not die in the fire. That was what they said had killed his parents, when he eventually traced his way back to the village where he and Kanan had been born; yes, yes, I remember. Terrible tragedy. I remember there were two children, but I never heard what had happened to them...

He had been perhaps a year old, at the time; Kanan had been two. He imagined a tiny baby boy and his sister, choking on smoke, struggling for the door. Every time in his imagination they failed to reach it; he could not think how they had escaped. He wondered, sometimes, if it was a good thing that they had.

In the castle, after the slaughter, he didn't close his eyes and let himself go, and he didn't allow himself to lie in a pool of cooling blood, fading, until he stopped feeling anything at all. He still has no idea why. He just walked, one foot after another, too lost to know how to die.

He didn't even die on the path, in the woods, although there was so much blood. How could there have been so much blood? He felt as though he must have lost twenty pints, and no-one's body contained that much to start with. It was all over his hands and all over his clothes, and he did not know where he was or how he had got there.

He tried to tell the man who found him that he was there to die, and he could just leave him and go home, but the man's hair was fascinating and Hakkai's tongue was heavy in his mouth and he couldn't form the words. Instead he just stared, and said nothing, and lived.

Chin Yisou didn't kill him. By that time Hakkai had begun to stop wishing for it, but on the worse nights he wondered what it would have been like to suffer that death, and whether, after all, he would have deserved it.

In reality he knows that he would have, but he also knows that what one deserves and what one gets have no relationship at all.

He didn't die in Hontou castle either. And he didn't want to. Not even for a moment.

"Yanno," Gojyo told him, "for someone with a total fucking deathwish, it's amazing how often you don't die."

Hakkai smiled.

"I really don't know what you're talking about, Gojyo. If anyone has a deathwish I would think it's you and Goku."

It was amazingly easy to say.

Yagyuu. For b), don't talk about how he sucks because he's hard to write. A reason why he sucks, not how we suck as writers. XD;

"A girl attempted to confess to you today, Niou-kun," Yagyuu said, combing fingers through his hair in an attempt to make it sit right in his own style. It was resisting, even after they'd washed the mess of hair-product out.

Niou, stretched out on his bed, glanced over at him with vague curiosity. "Yeah? Who?"

"I'm afraid I don't remember her name."

"Okay. I guess I'll find out. What didya tell her?"

Yagyuu gave him a perfectly bland look. "I told her I found her so unattractive I would prefer to have sex with my doubles partner."

"In those words, huh?"

"Not precisely. I swore rather more."

Niou shook his head, admiring. "Man. You're good. And a total git."

Yagyuu's smile was a little smug. "I aim to satisfy."

"And that," Niou told him, "is why you're awesome."

"Why Niou-kun, that sounded suspiciously like a compliment."

"Sure. Don't get used to it."

*grin* Illumi.
From: [identity profile] giving-ground.livejournal.com
1. When he looks at Killua and Gon, Illumi feels something which might just about be akin to nostalgia, in a distant sort of way. A long time ago there were two boys, and they were such good friends; they went everywhere together, and had all sorts of adventures. One of those boys is dead now, and the memory of him trying to draw a last desperate breath is just an occasional curiosity in Illumi's mind. Gon makes him remember, and makes it easy to tell Killua exactly what will happen if he persists.

One of Illumi's greatest mental failings, from a certain very specialised point of view, is an inability to recognise that he and Killua are not very much alike at all.

2. Many things Illumi does are done first and foremost out of curiosity. Would I be able to, what would be the most efficient method, I wonder, do you suppose. He was the kind of boy who killed things for fun, although in the Zaoldyeck family this is not only acceptable but encouraged, if only for the practice. All the same, he probably would have done it even if the family occupation had been a different one. He is able to find a certain amount of enjoyment in testing things to destruction.

3. If Illumi had been born a girl, his mother would have thought he was absolutely perfect. He has no feelings on this subject at all; so far as he is concerned, the number of X chromosomes he possesses is utterly irrelevant. To say he does not think about sex at all might give a faintly misleading impression, but only faintly.
