[Saiyuki] Sleepless - Sanzo, Goku (G)

Summary: not-quite-drabble. Sanzo watches the rain and Goku watches Sanzo. (dystopiarcadia was throwing me random prompts on one of the many trains we've taken together recently and this one came out better than most of them.)

It rains and rains and rains. Sanzo chain-smokes his way through his Marlboros with grim determination, staring out of the window and looking as though he's watching the end of the world. When he runs out he moves far enough to check that Gojyo is asleep and swipe his packet of cigarettes from the table by his bed - not that he'd refrain if Gojyo was awake, but there'd be more of a fuss. (Across the room Hakkai shifts a bit, but says nothing, leaving Sanzo... alone, if not in peace.)

Goku watches from his bed, cocooned in blankets and with his eyes half-closed, pretending to sleep. He remembers being caged - really caged, or only thinking he was - and how Sanzo has set him free; and he thinks that Sanzo needs someone to do the same for him. He wishes he knew how. For now he can only keep watch until the rain ends and Sanzo can finally sleep.

Just letting you know... it's Marlboros... also, Sanzo disapproves of gojyo's cigs, so he'd be not quite so hasty to smoke them.

thanks for picking up on the spelling, and the disapproval, well - it was more a measure of his not-so-great mental state right then. Compulsively smoking, even if it wasn't what he might have liked. That make sense? ^^;

Hmm... it's possible... to be honest I discovered Saiyuki fandom pretty recently (a couple of months ago, anyway) and have been reading fic like mad, but that leads to forgetting exactly what I've read by who. I'll take a look and see. *laughs*
